The wide selection of natural hardwoods and stone to more striking abstract designs make it the perfect option for the those looking for a natural hard floor without the constant upkeep and who want more flexibility when it comes to the layout and style of their new floor.

What is luxury vinyl flooring?

Vinyl flooring has been a firm favourite in homes and workplaces since the 1950's Many types of vinyl flooring manufactured before 1980 contained asbestos. Thankfully with today's technology, this is no longer the case. Gone is the hard, cold, brittle linoleum from years gone past.

Today luxury vinyl flooring is warmer underfoot, cushioned and stylish. Vinyl flooring is a product composed of several layers of different materials sandwiched together to form a highly durable, practical and affordable floor covering.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) is one of the most popular choices in the UK. Luxury Vinyl Tiles are designed to look like natural wood, stone or ceramic.

These tiles come in plank design for great wood effect flooring and tiles for stone or ceramic effect flooring. They will even come with embedded textures, so you are offered an even more authentic look for your flooring.

This cushioned vinyl flooring will give the effect of real wood, stone or ceramic, but without the noise with every footstep. So it is perfect for adding extra warmth and sound insulation to your room. Luxury vinyl flooring has many benefits for your house.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) is an excellent choice if you want a hard-wearing, durable and easy to look after floor. LVT is designed to give the appearance of wood, stone or ceramic tiles.

DURABILITY:

Luxury vinyl tiles are scratch-resistant, perfect if your home or business has high traffic areas. It will absorb sound, unlike hardwood or stone flooring, where you and your neighbours hear every footstep.

Luxury vinyl floor is less likely to break or chip if you drop something on it.  Unlike wooden and stone flooring, luxury vinyl tiles are low maintenance. You can vacuum, sweep and mop them as often as required.

Never soak the floor but use a well wrung out mop or damp cloth to clean the surface instead. There is no need to purchase expensive real wood or stone floor cleaner.

Luxury vinyl flooring is resilient to heavy traffic, dents, moisture damage, heat and much more. With its hard wear layer, it will withstand far more than other types of flooring while luxury vinyl flooring is exceptionally durable, like any flooring it will need protecting from heavy furniture.

With any heavy furniture, you can place padded floor protectors underneath - for example, under the legs of chairs that could tear or dent your luxury vinyl flooring. We all know that sometimes little accidents do happen if a luxury vinyl tile is damaged; it is so much easier to replace. LVT is available in packs.

If a single or several tiles becomes damaged, you can replace the individual tile rather than have to try to repair or replace the whole of the flooring. We have all heard the horror stories of somebody having their carpet ruined in a part that is visible and can't be hidden by a piece of furniture.

LOW COST:

Compared to real hardwood flooring or stone and ceramic tiles, luxury vinyl flooring is a lot less expensive to purchase. LVT is far more affordable than you might think. It is far more durable with lower maintenance costs.

It is one of the lease expensive flooring choices for your home or place of work. LVT is also long-lasting, so there is no need to replace as often as other types of flooring.

VERSATILITY:

Luxury vinyl flooring is exceptionally versatile not only is it hard-wearing and waterproof; it also gives excellent slip and grip resistance. LVT is highly recommended for higher risk areas of your home or business premises, like kitchens and bathrooms where spills are more likely.

However, there isn't a room in your home where luxury vinyl flooring wouldn't look stunning.  LVT is even suitable for staircases, giving that excellent wood effect to each stair tread.

WARMTH:

The thickness of luxury vinyl flooring makes it far warmer underfoot. It gives a higher level of insulation, and it is also compatible with underfloor heating, with an impressive level of heat conducted through the luxury vinyl tiles.

LVT is naturally warmer to the touch, stone and slate flooring can be extremely cold, especially during the colder winter months. This type of surface is much warmer and has a locking mechanism in place that already has a cushion of underlay to provide an extra level of insulation.

INSTALLATION:

Luxury vinyl flooring is available in a click or glues down options. LVT is quicker to install compared to wood, ceramic or stone tile, and it is fitted easily over existing plywood or concrete subfloors. Make sure the surface is flat, smooth and structurally sound before installation begins, this will make your flooring project easier.

Click vinyl tiling:

Luxury click vinyl tiling and plank flooring works with the same principle as click together laminate flooring, without the need for glues and other adhesives. Each tile will click together, giving you the look of a wooden, laminate or tiled floor.

Click vinyl flooring gets its name from the use of a locking mechanism on the edges of the boards, which allows the flooring to be 'clicked' together. You can lay the flooring over the top of underlay without the need to glue the individual tiles down.

Glue down vinyl flooring:

Glue down vinyl flooring is often referred to as stick down vinyl flooring. When it comes to vinyl flooring, this is a traditional installation method. The flooring should be fitted using a recommended adhesive.

It will provide additional stability. Using a cheaper alternative might not give you the lasting effect that you want. With traditional slate or stone flooring, there is the need to grout in between each tile.

With stick down LVT, you can add feature strips as a grouting alternative. These strips are easier and far more efficient to apply and will give you a look and finished effect of a slate or stone floor.

Whether you choose, click or glue down luxury vinyl flooring it comes down to personal preference, budget and requirements.

LIFESPAN:

Luxury vinyl tiling has a fantastic lifespan, of course, this does depend on traffic levels, location and maintenance. However, there is no reason why your luxury vinyl tiling wouldn't last for 25 to 30 years. LVT is an excellent investment when it comes to style, value for money, and longevity.

VINYL ROLL FLOORING:

Vinyl roll flooring is made using the same materials as Luxury Vinyl Tiling; it is just constructed differently to produce different effects.

Vinyl roll flooring comes in large, continuous, flexible sheets. There are many advantages to this type of flooring. These rolls are available in an array of designs and colours. This type of flooring is also one of the most affordable floor coverings for homeowners.

LVT, on the other hand, offers a variety of designs and styles focusing mainly on reproducing the look and feel of natural materials such as wood, stone and slate.

Vinyl roll flooring is simple and easy to install and is available in different widths depending on the size of the floor you want to cover. It is supple and pliable, making fitting even easier, just un-roll. You can either loose-lay or glue vinyl roll flooring.

Cutting the flooring to size can be achieved with a sharp knife. However, if you have never fitted this type of flooring before it is best to ask a professional to install it for you, this keeps installation time to a minimum resulting in less disruption to the usability of the area.

Vinyl roll flooring, because of its durability is suitable for either commercial premises or residential properties alike. Due to the vast amount of colours and designs available, there will be something to suit any room, from playrooms and lounges to dining rooms, kitchens and bathrooms.

You will find the perfect vinyl roll flooring to meet all your requirements. One of the other advantages with vinyl rolls is that they offer excellent water resistance, making this the ideal material for use in bathrooms, kitchens or additional high moisture space in the home or commercial space. Cleaning your vinyl roll flooring is easy.

You can vacuum, sweep and mop them as often as required. Never soak the floor but use a well wrung out mop or damp cloth to clean the surface instead.
